“I want, by understanding myself, to understand others. I want to be all that I am capable of becoming…”
- Katherine Mansfield
Originally hailing from New Zealand, I have been based in London since 1994.
I am a headmaster, school governor, school inspector and ILM Level 7 executive professional coach. I have been working in education for more or less 30 years. I hold an MBA in Educational Leadership from the Institute of Education, UCL. I am currently headmaster of a thriving 3–11 co-ed prep school on the edge of London.
School governance
I am a Governor in a large, Ofsted-judged ‘outstanding’, state-maintained primary school in central London, where I serve as Deputy Chair and Chair of the Education and Standards Subcommittee. I am also a member of Council (the Governing Body) at an exceptionally well-regarded, large independent through school across three sites in North London, where I am also the Designated Safeguarding Governor.
Inspection
I am an experienced educational quality team inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), the body regulated to inspect and report on independent schools for the Department for Education.
Professional associations
I am closely connected to the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), where I sit as an Elected Executive Board Member. IAPS represents the interests and supports the work of over 650 schools both in the UK and internationally. I coach Heads newly appointed to their role in IAPS schools and I serve as Course Director for their annual flagship ‘New Heads’ residential leadership development programme. I also host the IAPS ‘Journal Club’ podcast, where interested Heads discuss a diverse range of academic leadership material, aiming to bring it to life for colleagues occupying any leadership role. I am a Founding Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching and have long been a member of the British Educational, Leadership, Management & Administration Society (BELMAS).
